National Library Week 2020

It's National Library Week! Here at the Friends of Oakley Library we are so pleased to support the Oakley Library and all that it does for our community.
The theme for National Library Week 2020, "Find your place at the library," was chosen before the pandemic forced most libraries to temporarily close their doors. Even though our Library's doors are shut, you can still find your place at the library because libraries are open for business online, providing the virtual services and digital content our community needs more than ever.

You Can Still (Virtually) Go to the Library

While the libraries are closed, there are tons of free, digital library resources you can access with your library card:

Happy Reading/Watching/Learning!

We want to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who has participated in our Programming Fundraiser! With your support we were able to sell 59 t-shirts and raised $2,144.89 for the Oakley Library. This has been our most successful fundraiser to date, and we are touched by the generosity of our community. New Library Committee!

The Friends of the Oakley Library has established a committee to get Oakley a stand-alone Library. This committee will look in to the many different ways that a Library can be built, what support we can give and how we can get the Oakley community behind this project. We will be meeting monthly on the first Tuesday of each month at the current Oakley Library, 1050 Neroly Road, at 6 p.m., and everyone is welcome to attend.

Since 1913 the Oakley Library has served the community from a variety of locations throughout the city. In 1999 the Library was moved part of Freedom High School's Library where it still resides today. As stated in the Oakley Press,  city officials are looking in to moving the Oakley Library to the old Sheriff's Station on O'Hara Ave. We are wanting community input in to the matter and hope to see everyone at our meeting!
